How to Hire a Senior-Level Marketer Who Can Position Your Business Strategically
As I wrote last week, there are only a few valid reasons to hire a senior-level marketing professional for your business. Today, let’s explore another reason . . .
You Need a Marketer to Think about Your Business, Position It Effectively, and Solve Marketing Problems
If this is your need, here are some questions to consider about candidates:
- Do they seem to have a good understanding of your underlying business problems?
- Are they able to formulate promising solutions to problems that are preventing your business growth?
- Do they have a track record of solving problems? (The best way to figure this one out is with reference checks. Also research the “digital footprint” of work that they have done for other companies and put them through a few behavioral situation interview questions.
For the candidates you are more serious about, you might consider having them work on a fictitious marketing project to see how they generate solutions and present their ideas. You will be able to get a glimpse into their thought process and identify any holes in their experience.
